Blog for My Java Class

About my School

Muntinlupa National High School main or commonly known as MNHS main is the school where I am studying at the moment. It is a public school of the Philippines, under the supervision of the Department of Education (DepEd). MNHS main, which is headed by Sir Florante Marmeto, offers Senior High School (SHS) and the strands that they have are as follows:
-STEM
-ABM
-ICT
-Arts and Design
-automotive
-H.E
-GAS

I will share some experiences of mine in MNHS main. Since I am a transferee, I can't help but to compare the school where I am studying at the moment from my previous school. When I first entered our classroom, I was shock because there are no chairs and I thought that there should have chairs because it is back to school. Then our adviser told us to get plastic chairs from the gym, the fact that our classroom is located at the 4th floor then we will carry chairs from the gym to our room is tiring. Still, we got ourselves a chair. This scene of us carrying-chairs-to-our-classroom was repeated when the wooden chairs with desk was delivered to our school. And this time it was VERY tiring compared to the previous one, because the chairs that we carry this time is so heavy and we have to carry it until we reach our room in the 4th floor. And I have also noticed that our classroom has no electric fan. In our previous school we are using aircon, so it's kinda new to me about not having aircon in our classroom. So during the first 2 months of the school year, it was so humid and it frustrates me a lot. But after a month, I guess that was in July, when my classmates and I were shocked when we entered the room because we saw two "small" wall fans. We were already happy that time, because we don't need to use a folding fan to fan ourselves every second of the day. Here are a few pictures:

Now, let us take a further look about MNHS main.

BUILDINGS

MNHS main has lots of buildings since there are approximately 4,000 students both in junior and senior high school. But the thing is, some of the buildings are quite far from each other. So the teachers need to travel (apologize me for exaggerating) just to go to their classes. The things that I liked about the buildings are the design and how spacious the new buildings are. So in our classroom, I can say that it's big enough for 48 students. Meanwhile, the gymnasium is REALLY big compared to those gymnasiums of my previous schools. When I first saw the gym of MNHS main I was amazed. So I noticed that having a big gymnasium is good since many students can fit and can play whatever they want during break/lunch time.

SCHOOL CANTEEN/S:

I was shocked when I knew that there are more than 1 school canteen. So this means happiness to the food lovers in the school. Students can choose between a variety of foods in a very affordable price and that's what I like. Because in my previous school, it has only 1 canteen and the foods that they sell is so expensive.

COMFORT ROOMS

As for the comfort rooms, I can say that it is LITERALLY disgusting. Yes MNHS main has lots of comfort rooms (but still far from our building) but I have observed that the CRs usually runs out of water, especially the CR in our building. That's why when you go inside that CR you might vomit because of the smell and because of how it looks. Also, when someone poop, they usually just leave it there because there is no water to be used to flush it out. And because the comfort room in our building has only 2 toilets, there are instances that those 2 toilets has poop. That's why we, the students from our building, will just go to other buildings just to use the comfort room. But sometimes, the comfort rooms in other buildings are locked. At times, the comfort room in our building is also locked. So I also need to do the same thing-- to go to other comfort rooms, but there are times that despite of the effort of traveling to another building to use their comfort room is that a locked CR showed up to me. IT JUST FRUSTRATES ME A LOT! What I have also also noticed is there is no trash bins inside the comfort rooms. That's why you can see sanitary napkins scattering inside the CR.

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

MNHS main celebrates monthly activities since every month there is a celebration for a subject (e.g., August is the Buwan ng Wika). Some of the activities or contests that they organized are as follows:
-quiz bee
-essay writing contest
-poster making contest
-slogan making contest
-dance competition
-pageants
-video making contest

I realized that participating school activities can help boost ones confidence and help a student be more sociable. Because personally, school activities helped me to become more confident and I am not shy anymore to talk to other students.

About my Strand

Information Communication Technology or ICT is the strand that I took. It is under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track and ICT is along with Arts and Design, automotive, H.E, etc. To those who doesn't know ICT, well according to Wikipedia- Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is an extended term for information technology (IT) which stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals).

For the first semester, the subjects that we have are General Mathematics, Business Math, Oral Communication, Earth and Life Science, USCP and Java (our major subject).

In the strand I chose, I am expecting that we will use computers. But we're not using computer nor doing hands-on, which is for me wrong. I agree to my Java teacher/adviser with what she said before--how can the students apply the things that we have learned on our lectures if they don't use computer? I guess the reason why we are not using computers is because we are in a public school and the computers that MNHS main has is limited only. We just keep on lecturing, and to be honest I really don't understand some of the things that our teacher is teaching. Because I don't know how I will do it in a computer. It is like I'm solving a jigsaw puzzle but I am stock because one piece is missing. But so far the lessons are quite easy but AGAIN I really don't understand some of it because for me, some things are better explained by doing it not by telling it. And I guess that is the reason why I don't get some of the lessons because WE ARE NOT USING COMPUTERS.

(September 14, 2017.
Yesterday, September 13, we had our Java class and our teacher let us use laptop for the first time in our class with her. She demonstrated to us how to do a program and she let us type a program in the software Net bean. And I realized that if we are always like this, using laptop/computer while discussing, we will easily understand the lessons. We were really enjoying the moment yesterday. I hope the ICT department will allow us grade 11 students to use computers while we are in the Java class because it would be very helpful. By the way, I just came here to post this update hehe)

About my Favorite High School Teacher

Since it is teacher's month, I will tell who my favorite teachers are. My first favorite teacher in high school is Sir Coco. He was my math teacher in grade 9. Even if he did not have more time to teach me, because I was transferred to another school, he assured that he will make math easy for me. Which he really did. And I thank him so much about that.

My second favorite teacher is Mrs. Lorina Celecio. She was my math teacher when I was in the 10th grade. If Sir Coco made math easy for me, Mrs. Celecio, on the other hand, made math fun for me. I like her attitude because she's strict yet cool. She teaches us lessons in life and she jokes around. And when she is scolding us I find her cute hehe. I remember when she said to our class "Anong akala niyo sa akin, MONSTER?" She told that because she was scolding my classmates who got a low grade in her subject.

For all the teachers, HAPPY TEACHER'S MONTH :) and of course to my adviser, Ma'am Marivic Fernandez, thank you for everything and Happy Teacher's month.
